Martin is Managing Director at Saunders, is a Chartered Architect and has a Master’s Degree in Urban Design. He has significant experience across all market sectors including Education. He has worked on new build and refurbishment projects for nurseries, primary and secondary education facilities, as well as Higher and Further Education establishments. Martin is known for his innovative approach and eye for detail. He works closely with our clients to ensure that their objectives are met.



Education Led Master Plan

Working with Paragon Structures and King Edwards School to develop an education led master plan for the school in Bath. Phase 1 included a new access and drop-off strategy integrated into the landscape. This was then followed by a feasibility for Phase 2, a sports facility including a 5 court sport hall, swimming pool, changing, gym, covered spectator seating for the MUGA, sprint track and café facilities.

King Edwards School, Bath

New Music Accommodation, Additional Science, IT / Business Rooms and Technology Spaces

Working with AA projects to develop a curriculum assessment and feasibility for the development of school to allow for an increase from 8FE to 9FE over the next 5 years. The development includes for a series of new music accommodation spaces, additional science areas, IT / Business rooms and technology spaces within and as an extension to the existing buildings. We are now looking to commence planning and delivery to ensure that the spaces are ready for use before Christmas 2018.

Sarah Bonnell School, Stratford

Master Plan For Tennis Centre, Sports Education and Changing Facilities.

Working with Paragon Structures and Bristol University to develop a master plan for their Tennis Centre, sports education and changing facilities. The master plan was to include for 12 tennis courts, 3000sqm of changing / other sports facilities and conference areas. Phase 1 is to include the first 4 tennis courts, reception and conference facility. This is currently being procured via the SCAPE framework.

Coombe Dingle Campus, Bristol University

4 Court Hall, Classroom, Function Space and Changing Rooms

Working with Paragon Structures and Dumpton School we developed an alternative feasibility to the approved ‘Ball Hall’ scheme. This provided the same quality of design, with a greatly reduced construction programme and with a saving of approximately 1/3 of the construction cost. The scheme included a 4 court hall, classroom, function space and changing rooms.

Standard Sports Centres for Education Institutions

Working with Paragon Structures to develop a series of standard Sports Centres for Education Institutions, including Universities, Colleges and Schools. These can then be used for various different sectors and clients, depending on the scope of their requirements.

Primary Academy

Needs analysis, brief development, feasibility and master plan for the development of the Primary Academy. This development proposal has been used to prepare for CIF funding for the 2016 allocation.

Applecroft School, Welwyn

Early Years Learning

Masterplan, feasibility studies, concept design and full planning submission for Carbon Neutral Sure Start Nursery incorporating 5 classrooms, parking, drop off area, garden and associated offices and other facilities, designed with flexibility in mind. The curve form provided protected views from the classroom to the varied open and covered play areas. Project value was £1.45 million.

Nursery School, Hoddesdon


Planning and construction of public library and learning centre for Manchester City Council forming part of a mixed use development. The 1,250 m² building achieved a BREEAM rating of Very Good and ‘Secure by Design’ accreditation. The project value was £1.75 million.
